We have all seen great lists of camping essentials, but there are some items you should not do without. Not all food keeps as well as others, and not all is easy to carry on a hiking trip either.
In general, if a higher quality camping tent is needed the more dollars should be allocated. If you start early then when the time comes for you to head out you just need to put together all the items and start packing. Cotton does not dry quickly and retains the water against your skin causing you to become even colder with the added risk of hypothermia developing, so don't wear it on damp days.
You need warm, but flexible clothing while camping. Try to flex and exercise your ankles at least several times in the week or two before your trip. Mountain guides are professionals who can help you up a mountain safely, as they are generally adept climbers and skiers, who know the terrain.
You should also develop a routine for keeping your feet dry and comfortable. Remember to take lots of pictures so you will also have a long-term memento of how beautiful the countryside was on your hiking trip.
